A mother's rant over a really stupid comment

Recently in York, Maine, a budget committee member named Steve Samborski said he thought music and band programs in schools were “a catch basin for students who cannot qualify to get into more academic programs.” (read the story)

Follow up interviews with music directors for a second story showed the exact opposite to be true. Students who excel at music, excel in their other academic studies as well. (read the story) 

I, as the mother of a music major at the University of New Hampshire, can attest to that. My son is bright, an amazing musician and an honor student. He has never been off the honor rolls, for his entire school career.
